2024 Draft Review

The 2024 AFL Draft has concluded, marking another proud moment for the Gippsland football community. Once again, the region showcased its ability to produce elite talent, with several Gippsland League players selected to join AFL clubs.

Pick 11 Melbourne: Xavier Lindsay (Leongatha Football Netball Club)

Leongatha's Xavier Lindsay has been drafted to Melbourne with pick 11 in the AFL National Draft. Originally joining the Parrots from Inverloch-Kongwak in 2023, Xavier played seven games before focusing on his commitments with Gippsland Power and representing Victoria Country. Xavier was also in inaugral member of the Gippsland All Stars representing Southern Gippsland.

Pick 51 Western Bulldogs: Sam Davidson (Maffra Football Netball Club)

Sam Davidson is off to Western Bulldogs with pick 51 in the National Draft.

Sam played with Maffra in season 2023 averaging 22 disposals and 8 marks a game while kicking 15 goals in his 10 games at the Eagles before moving onto Richmond VFL.

Pick 58 Richmond Football Club: Jasper Alger (Warragul Football Netball Club)

Warragul's Jasper Alger is off to Richmond with pick 58 in the National Draft. Alger was at Gippsland Power in 2023 before shifting to the Oakleigh Chargers this season on a scholarship. Algar played 33 games at the Gulls.

Rookie Draft: Melbourne Football Club: Ricky Mentha Jnr (Morwell Football Netball Club)

Ricky Mentha Jnr was selected by the Melbourne Football Club as a Category B Rookie. Mentha relocated to Victoria from the Northern Territory to enhance his draft prospects, playing football for Morwell, Gippsland Power, the National Academy, Northern Territory, and the Allies in 2024.
