Leongatha senior football teams amazing winning streak has continued after their Round 16 blowout win over archrival Maffra. The Parrots current win streak now sits at 24 after going through the first 16 rounds of the 2022 season undefeated. The Parrots finished 2021 with a record of nine wins and one loss with an eight-match win streak as the season was called off due to the state lockdowns. Their last defeat came in Round 2 2021 when local rivals Wonthaggi Power pipped the Parrots by 11 points in Wonthaggi.
While the rest of the Gippsland League competition is eyeing off the 2021 minor premiers. The general football fan can sit there and celebrate what is one of country footballs dynasty teams. The Parrots have been one of the most dominant sides in the Gippsland League over the past decade and are looking to make their 6th consecutive Gippsland League Grand Final in 2022 after their 2015-2019 streak. In 2016 the Parrots went through the home and away season undefeated but ultimately went on to drop two matches to Maffra in the finals including the Grand Final. They claimed back-to-back titles in 2017 and 2018 before losing an epic 2019 Grand Final to Maffra in the fourth consecutive finale featuring the two great sides. After losing 2020 to COVID the 2021 Parrots looked set to feature deep into the finals again and finished as minor premiers when the season was cancelled. 2022 has them undefeated after the first 16 rounds of the season and for a club etched with a strong history, the lessons learned from 2016 and those senior players still in the group who lived it, may just be vital in their run to a 10th Gippsland League Senior Premiership.
