Our 17 & Under and 15 & Under sides ventured to the State Hockey and Netball Centre last Sunday for the state finals of the Association Championships.
The 17 & Under side had an impressive run through the event with the team making the semi finals. The team entered the day with only the minimum 7 players available after two injuries in the Gippsland League Round 15 match day. Jo Ballinger and Bern Dillon had the girls playing at their best as they finished third on the overall table after sitting second for the majority of the day. Unfortunately after beating Hampden FNL in the qualifying rounds they lost the semi final 5 goals to narrowly miss the final.

The 15's side started the event off slowly and never recovered. In a hotly contested age group the girls had to wait until round 4 for their first win over Sale NA. They finished 8th on the table but they showed they could have been one of the better sides with good early showings against the finalists. In their final match of the day they led the undefeated Banyule DNA side at half time and eventually went down by only 2 goals. The Banyule side ended up going through undefeated and claimed the final 16-11 over St Albans/Caroline Springs which was another side the Gippsland girls led at half time against. A great campaign from the start claiming the Eastern title and a huge thanks to coach Kate Sperling, Sophie Membrey and Gippsland League's Jodie Galea and Carlie Dwyer for their efforts across all grades.
