Let the debates begin! The final list for season 2022 is in and we are releasing who we think were the Top 50 players in the lead into the new year. We fully expect this list to be divisive – there is no definitive way to rank players, other than subjective opinion especially on the back of one of the great Alinta Energy Gippsland League seasons.
So much talent graced the League in 2022 and the final list, we feel, reflects the players that had the biggest impact on the season. A key note is that players must have played 9 regular season matches (like the team of the year) to qualify. So before we see the comments on the posts, there are several players who would have made the final list not included due to the games qualification either from injury or from other football duties such as VFL. These players include Riley Baldi- Moe, Cameron Olden - Leongatha, Kim Drew - Leongatha, Kyle Reid - Wonthaggi & Austin Hodge - Bairnsdale to name a few. We have also factored in finals and team performance in the final make up which was a deciding factor in some of the tie breaker calls. This is also the case for positions, this is not a list of 50 midfielders that polled well in the League medal. We have tried to include an even breakdown of forwards and defenders to compliment the midfield/ruck talent.
