Interleague Head Coach

Position Title:
2025 Gippsland League Under 18 Interleague Head Coach

Overview:
The Gippsland League is seeking an experienced and motivated individual to lead the Under 18 representative football team in the 2025 Gippsland Interleague Carnival, to be held on Wednesday, 9 July at Morwell Recreation Reserve. This is a coaching opportunity to work with the league’s most talented junior footballers and to play a key role in their development on the representative stage.

Role Purpose:
The Head Coach will be responsible for the overall preparation, leadership, and performance of the Gippsland League U18 team, ensuring a high standard of professionalism, development, and representation of the league. The role will also involve assembling a capable support team, overseeing player selection, and delivering an engaging and effective training program in the lead-up to the carnival.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Program Development:
    Design and implement a comprehensive football strategy tailored to the strengths and development of the U18 representative squad. This includes game plans, training drills, player education, and performance monitoring.
  • Squad Management:
    Oversee the player selection process in conjunction with league officials and support staff. Ensure fair and transparent communication with clubs and players throughout the selection period.
  • Training Coordination:
    Plan, schedule, and deliver weekly training sessions in the lead-up to the Interleague Carnival, focusing on skill development, team cohesion, and match preparation.
  • Support Team Leadership:
    Appoint and manage a team of assistant coaches, a team manager, and a runner in consultation with the Gippsland League.
  • Liaison with League Officials:
    Maintain regular contact with the Gippsland League Operations Manager regarding logistics, communications, and administrative requirements.
  • Promotion and Representation:
    Represent the team and the league in media, promotional, and public-facing opportunities. Promote the values and culture of the Gippsland League while building excitement around the Interleague program.
  • Player Engagement:
    Foster a positive, inclusive, and competitive environment that encourages participation and brings out the best in the region’s top junior players.

Key Requirements:

  • Minimum Bronze AFL Coaching Accreditation (Silver preferred).
  • Current Working with Children Check (mandatory).
  • Proven experience coaching junior or senior Australian Rules Football at club or representative level.
  • Strong knowledge of the Gippsland football landscape, including clubs, players, and local development pathways.
  • Ability to commit to weekly evening or weekend training sessions in the lead-up to the Interleague Carnival.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and organisational skills, with the ability to inspire young athletes.
  • Capacity to build a support team and manage program logistics effectively.
