As the Gippsland League A Grade netball season reaches the halfway point, it's been a compelling campaign headlined by dominant teams, breakout stars, and thrilling contests. With nine rounds completed, the competition is beginning to take shape, and the race for finals is heating up.
Moe has emerged as the clear pacesetter, boasting an unblemished 9-0 record. The Lions sit atop the ladder with a powerful percentage of 186.19, built on a combination of defensive discipline and attacking brilliance. Georgia Moody has been a standout, tied atop the MVP leaderboard with 27 votes and named in the Team of the Week six times. Teammate Ashlea Mawer has also been prolific, sitting second in the league for goals (450 from 8 games) and just behind in MVP votes with 26. Warragul (8-1) and Morwell (7-2) round out the top three and have been consistent contenders. Warragul’s Emma Ryde has been near-unstoppable in goals, leading the league with 619 from nine games, and has also featured in the Team of the Week six times. Defender Sienna Green (27 MVP votes) and midcourter Renee Cook have added further depth, making Warragul a serious threat.
Morwell’s well-rounded lineup includes MVP vote-getters Chloe Radford (18), Holly Stephens (314 goals), and Tanya Budge. The Tigers are building momentum and look set for a strong second half. Three clubs are locked on 20 points: Drouin, Leongatha, and Bairnsdale. Drouin’s April Bethune (23 MVP votes) and Charlize Traumanis (349 goals) have driven their campaign, while Leongatha’s Amy Scott & Jayde Hall and Bairnsdale’s trio of Paris Dunkley, Alison Dwyer, and Sally Deller have all been consistent contributors.
Traralgon (3-6) has shown promising signs throughout the first half of the season, with several competitive outings and strong individual performances. Emma White has led the charge in goals with 224, while emerging midcourt talent Milly Murphy continues to impress with her work rate and composure. Wonthaggi, Sale, and Maffra may sit outside the top six, but all three have laid important foundations for growth. Sale’s Kate Van der Voort has been a standout in attack with 209 goals from just seven games, while Maffra’s Chloe Felsbourg has provided a consistent scoring option and continues to develop as a key contributor. Each club is building valuable experience and remains capable of shaking up the second half of the season.
