SUMMARY

It’s been a tough start to the year for the Red Legs on both the football field and netball courts. The A Grade Red Legs have struggled this season and go into the break winless. Always a tough ask for a young team to compete with the travel. They will be hoping to snatch a win with Roun 11 and 12 their best chances.

SUMMARY

The Hawks have been sitting in a finals position since Round 1 but have just slipped to sixth after their Roun 9 loss to Leongatha. The Hawks have won key games early including their Round 2 match against Traralgon. April Bethune has been a welcome inclusion back into the side and her partnership in defence with Kym Diston has been their strength so far in 2022. They look to be fighting Traralgon and Wonthaggi for a spot in the five come seasons end. Look out for those return matches in Round 11 and 13 to shape how the ladder sits come the end of the home and away season.

SUMMARY

Sitting second at the halfway point is a great result for Parrots fans. They are right in the mix for the double chance and to push deep into September. They have dropped games to both Morwell and Moe by one point. Strong wins over Traralgon and Wonthaggi Power have seen them solidify themselves at the top. Hannah Flanders and Jess Edgar have been a constant in goals this year and have formed a winning partnership. Taylah Brown and Nicola Marriott have been playing through the mid court and been dominant in the early rounds with Brown sitting in the top 5 of the MVP at the half way mark. Expect them to be in the top 3 come seasons end.

SUMMARY

The Eagles have been an improved coming towards the middle part of the season. They have recorded two wins against the teams below them but have failed to crack into any sides in the top part of the ladder. Another younger team overall with plenty of junior League award winners in their ranks. Emma Allman continues to star in the mid court and former Sale junior Alex Stephenson is a welcome inclusion in defence. Jas Hennig is performing admirably in her first full A Grade season and has shot over 150 goals to this point.

TEAM OF THE YEAR CONTENDERS SO FAR: Georgia Moody, Alex Moody, Macy Gardiner, Ramayer Gourley, Taylin Gourley

SUMMARY

The Lions are one of the top contenders in 2022. They dropped a home game to Wonthaggi Power in Round 9 which has seen them drop to 3rd place. Their match against Morwell early in the year was a high quality back and forth and could well be a Grand Final preview. They need to keep their best players on the court and if they do it will be a deep run in September for the 2018 premiers. Alex Moody has been a star through the mid court while Georgia Moody has been on of the top goalers again this year. Taylin Gourley leads the Shooting Star award and will be hard to beat if fit for the remainder of the year.

MOST MVP VOTES: Shannon Freeman 20

TEAM OF THE YEAR CONTENDERS SO FAR: Shannon Freeman, Courtney Garth, Daisy Hill, Claire Allison, Tanya Budge

SUMMARY

The Tigers are a standout side in 2022. Their off season additions of Shannon Freeman and Saskia Eenjes has moved them to another level. They also welcomed back veteran stars Rachel Tatterson and Claire Allison after the sisters became first time mums in 2021. Shannon Freeman leads the MVP on a stunning 20 votes at half way and forms the best defensive pairing in the League with 2019 MVP Courtney Garth. They have won all 9 matches so far and had convincing wins over Leongatha and Moe. Although they were challenged in parts over four quarters they have been stronger than the rest so far. They have depth with Eenjes playing mainly in the mid court but has been a goaler at Traralgon. Tanya Budge sits at WD but would be a key defender in every other side.

SUMMARY

It has been a tough year for the Magpies as they look to rebuild their A Grade side. They managed to get on the board over Bairnsdale early in the season which was a great reward for their efforts. Currently at 9th on the table their main goals will be to pick up a few wins and keep developing in the second half of the season. Tegan Harrison has been solid in goals and looks to be a quality piece for the future.

SUMMARY

The Maroons had a tough draw early on with Leongatha, Drouin, Morwell and Moe to start. After going winless into Round 5 they claimed a crucial win over Warragul and have made the most of their games since then. Currently sit in the five and are battling with Wonthaggi, Drouin and Warragul for the minor finals positions. Maddy Stockdale has been a welcome return to the side and has been lively in goals. Amy Harrison has been great in defence with the Maroons having the third least goals conceded in the League so far. If they can pinch the Drouin game they should play finals but it is super competitive from 4-7 on the table.

SUMMARY

As it is with the Senior Football the A Grade Gull’s will be equally disappointed and also happy in the first part of the season. They are still in contention and haven’t got a settled team until the last few weeks. They were one of the stronger sides in 2021 and still have a core of players that could see them play finals. While it will be a tough ask, they need to make games against The Power, Maroons and Hawks count if they are to taste finals action this year.

SUMMARY

The Power will be looking towards finals action for the first time in recent history as they make the turn in fourth place. A tough loss to Traralgon was negated by a win over Moe away from home. They have tough and quality players on each line and should be favored to end up in the five. Like Traralgon they need to beat Drouin in the return match and if they do it is likely they will be there in the finals. Zali Anderson’s availability has given the team a huge boost and the return of Courtney Young to the side has been an enormous help.
