Taking a Stand: Orange Round Returns to Gippsland League

The Alinta Energy Gippsland League is proud to once again support Orange Round – a powerful, region-wide initiative encouraging sporting clubs to take a stand and raise awareness about sexual assault, family violence, and violence against women and girls.

Running since 2015, Orange Round is more than just a round of football and netball. It is an opportunity for our clubs, players, officials, and supporters to promote equality and respect in our community. The initiative draws inspiration from the United Nations International Orange Day, a global movement aimed at eliminating violence against women and girls by encouraging awareness, education, and community-led action.

“Orange Round is an initiative the Alinta Energy Gippsland League has proudly supported for many years. We are committed to championing gender equality and standing against violence towards women.”

“We also thank our Premier Partner, Loy Yang B, for their continued support in helping us deliver these vital community programs.” said Daniel Heathcote Alinta Energy Gippsland League General Manager

This year’s feature match will be between Bairnsdale and Drouin, with both clubs working together to lead the way in raising awareness.

Bairnsdale have been a long time supporter and driver of the Orange Round initiative and will represent the Gippsland League wearing a specially designed set of football jumpers & netball dresses, created in collaboration between Bairnsdale FNC and the Gippsland League, worn by the A Grade & Senior football team.

These visual displays are backed by real conversations and a shared commitment to change. The Gippsland League thanks all clubs for continuing to support this initiative and reminds everyone that sport has the power to influence, educate, and inspire action.

We encourage spectators to wear orange to the game, engage with awareness messages, and join us in taking a united stand against gender-based violence.

Together, we can build a safer, more respectful Gippsland.
