THE RUN HOME – A Grade Netball

Leading into the Round 16 split round we are taking a look at the run home for the A Grade competition and where the contenders sit coming into September and home their finals three matches look in the lead in to the 2022 finals series.

THE CONTENDERS

Morwell

The Tigers have been the yardstick all year and look the team to beat come September. The minor premiership is all but sewn up. Mathematically can be caught but after going through undefeated it is hard to see them dropping all three matches including the Round 18 match against 9^th place Sale. Will likely go straight through to the 2^nd Semi Final after a dominant home and away season.

R16: Wonthaggi Power  (5^th place) – Last meeting: Morwell 53 def Wonthaggi Power 35 

R17: Drouin (6^th place) – Last meeting: Morwell 51 def Drouin 27

R18: Sale (9^th place) – Last meeting: Morwell 57 def Sale 10

Predicted Finish: 1^st – 17 –1-0

Leongatha

The double chance is locked away due to their massive percentage. Should get the four points against Maffra which would put it beyond doubt. The Parrots have only dropped three matches for the season and will likely head into the finals as one of the form sides. There will be a lot of attention on the Round 17 clash with Moe as it likely will be a precursor to the Qualifying Final line up.

R17: Moe (3^rd place) – Last meeting: Moe 56 def Leongatha 55

R18: Drouin (6^th place) – Last meeting: Leongatha 50 def Drouin 33

Predicted Finish: 2^nd  – 15-3

Moe

The Lions matches will shape the final five. Their Round 16 match against Drouin could be one that unlocks a tense finish to the regular season. They need to win that match to solidify a double chance. Leongatha in Round 17 won’t be an easy match but they are more than capable of beating each side they play on the run in.

Predicted Finish: 3^rd – 13-5

Traralgon

Traralgon have a dream run into the finals with the bottom three sides in the competition. Two of those matches are at home which should safely solidify their strong hold on a finals spot. They are two games back on Moe and the Lions have a tough run in but will go in favorites in at least two of the three games. All hope is not lost for the double chance yet but one Moe victory may be a bridge to far for the Maroons.

R17: Sale (9^th  place) – Last meeting: Traralgon 50 def Sale 33

R18: Maffra (8^th place) – Last meeting: Traralgon 38 def Maffra 32

Predicted Finish: 4^th  - 11-2-5

Wonthaggi

The Power should be back in the finals after their Round 15 draw gave them a half game breathing space over Drouin. They have the winless Bairnsdale side in Round 17 which will be a vital match to ensure they can keep the gap. The Power also beat Moe in their last encounter and are every chance to repeat that result at home in Round 18.

Predicted Finish: 5^th – 9 -1 -8

Drouin

The cards have fallen and dealt the worst hand possible for the Hawks across the last three weeks. They face the top three sides with two matches away from home. Their home match is against the unbeaten Tigers in Round 17. On the back of this will likely miss the five with Wonthaggi likely to pick up at least one win in the final three games. But in a season full of surprises, don't rule them out just yet.
