A preview on 2023...

Football

Senior Coach: Boyd Bailey

One of the stories of the 2022 season was the Tigers beating all the odds to feature in the finals. They put on a good show too against rivals Traralgon but ultimately went down in the Elimination Final. They will again be there about in 2023. Boyd Bailey has taken over the coaching role full time and has bought back brother and former VFL player Brandon Bailey into the mix.

Off field they have had an indifferent lead in to 2023 with their club structure only getting settled in late February and it will be interesting to see if this uncertainty has any impact on the playing group early. They will be without breakout stars Tristen Waack and Nathan Noblett for large parts of the year as they begin their journey at the next level. These two were key pillars last season so there will be big holes to fill. Brandon McDonald kicked nearly 60 goals in 2022 and it would be unreasonable to expect that output again. He needs some support in the scoring department which along with the key defender posts have been the weakness over the past few years. They will be hoping that new recruit Adam Braendler can help in the key big department and fellow recruit Darnell Grech can be used either up forward or as a full back. They will again be optimistic and their previous game plan and attitude has held them in good stead against all other teams in the competition. Can they those close games which they got the better of in 2022? If they do they can again push for that fifth spot.

A Grade Coach: Rachel Patterson

The Tigers went through last season undefeated, with only a draw against Traralgon when they played the
final term 1 player short, keeping them from missing out on a premiers and champions title. They are the
reigning back to back premiers however did drop off in the 2021 covid affected season where they may have missed the five. They will be without star shooter Daisy Hill who is playing in Melbourne this year and Rachel Tatterson will miss most of the season.

They will come back to the pack without replacements in these key areas but their depth will ensure they
are still one of the top sides. Saskia Eenjes may be able to step into goals but they will need to change to
game plan with Hill’s height a key to the way they move the ball going forward. Could we see Court Garth in goals at times? Potentially with Shannon Freeman and Tanya Budge set to line-up again and with regular wing defender Anna Soloman reportedly being set to play in A Grade it could be a solution. Expect them to be top 5 and likely a top 3 side. It maybe a tougher path to the premiership but they should be there again when the whips are cracking
